damned as dragonflies

we war for place
and space, waste
our fragile wings and do
the devil's darning

our mating
and heart curled
but bloodless
in its grace

our children
our warped work
in the night

shade to see
the devil's face

For Paul's prompt at dVerse.  Also submitted to Real Toads

The idea of warped children is so painful... But what else can we expect, when our actions breed horrors?

What Magaly said. Sigh.

The metaphor of the dragonflies in their short lived existence with the only purpose to breed little monsters works chillingly well on humanity.

"Be careful what you breed, it might make you bleed" There are too many warped in the world.

Are we forever doomed to do the devil's darning? I pray not. It's not easy to convey anger, rage and loss into words but you have.

If we do the devil's darning, we have only ourselves to blame for our children's darkness. What a waste of those beautiful wings ~

Your first two and last two lines demonstrate well "our warped work."

MZ--"the devil's darning"?

Jeezalou. What a brilliant line. (Of course the rest is incredible, but that two-word pairing makes my mouth drop open.)

I agree with Magaly.. sigh..

Wow! Terrifying and potentially prophetic words!

I liked the line about "the devil's darning".

I agree with Grace.
I do so worry about the world we have created, worry especially for those children not spawned of devils darning, for they will inherit this Earth and all the darkness that comes with it...
