Dog

Your teeth are my teeth.
When you scent the night I follow

to a hunker low in the high grass -
God     twitch/still     a rabbit.

I like it, becoming one with the animal's mind.
Thank you for commenting on my poem at Dark Hearts Love Too.

God Dog Twitch Still...marvelous wordplay

Quite a wallop in the first two lines--and how incongruous we always find it when we come smack up against the bloody immutability of our animal selves.

So much tension in these lines.. and a very clever play on dog/god.

I can see both dog and rabbit in the "twitch/still". Wonderful!

my boys have a new dog and evidently he loves to chase rabbits. he doesn't bark, and if you stop petting him he jaws your wrist until you start again.

you sure get to the heart here. ~
