My Shadow

Stretched tight -
the umbilical
between my shadow and me.

I fetch light
for the coming night.
My shadow, I feed

bits of sun
till morning comes
to keep her here with me.

I love the surrealism of this one, MZ. It has a magical quality to it and an amazing musicality in the lines.

The shadows, like that fabled cord of life. This gives the perfect analogy to the in-between world. I've been loving light and shadows a lot lately. Guess November calls for it.

As always, powerful. (The word choice of "fetch" is especially perfect.)

Kelli--I am thankful there are writers like you and Shay who never seem to have a dry well, so when I need to drink for inspiration, I have your poems...
