I'm Like That

Put a cricket
in a skillet,
and he'll sing hot and fast.
I'm like that.

Lord, I'm like that.

I like my bridges burning
off the straight and narrow path
and my cats

bony black.

Don't try to be the bushel
where you think I hide my light.
Don't come dragging in the day
or dragging me from night.
You'll end a hollow haunting at the feast
while I swing from lean to fat.

I'm like that.

For Poetry Pantry at Poets United

If you have a minute, I have a poem in issue 8 of Firefly Magazine.  Check it out!

I love it! So much! Congrats on another published poem, Kelli. It's a good one, too. I know such childhoods, they run in my family like worn out old trains.

Kelli--I followed the link to the magazine. With such simple lines, you said so much. Congratulations to Firefly. They're lucky to have snagged a poem of yours.

(I love this one, too. The refrain, along with all the directions my mind goes in because of your well-crafted lines.)

I love the way you've worked your words in this piece - very fresh and authentic. And congrats on the published poem. (I wasn't sure of your non nom de plume, so I read 'em all. Very cool writing.) I like to think of our published words, as little, somewhat hidden, breadcrumbs we leave behind that show that we passed that way.

I loved this. Sorry, but I'll seek you out wherever you think you'll hide. I'll read you for the rest of my life if given that opportunity! Thankful for you! - mosk
