Needs And The Wants Between

I breathe,
eat,
drink,
fuck,
sleep,

and dream of pretty things.

I cover myself,
keep out the rain,
and climb when the waters rise.

I sharpen sticks,
fence and brick
and boundary

out the wild things.

Feed the fire -
Feed the fire -
too tired

to self-actualize.

A little fire for Poets United

If only we could have both safety/routine and danger/wildness! If only the work of creating the one didn't leave the other starving to death. Again you find the fiery pith of a nearly full life.

Sometimes feeding the fire can just be another damned chore, and it's best to let it die out for a while!

Holy Fire

I loved this, esp the realization at the end. I'm inclined to believe all the breathing, eating, fucking and fighting is how one actualizes one's self. Did I say I loved this? I did? Ok, then to not be redundant, I love you. Mosk

Yeah, who honestly has the time or inclination for self-actualization, when just getting through the day requires every last shred of will-power?

I so relate to being too tired to self-actualize. Potent words, MZ, as always, right to the point.

Ah, sometimes all one can manage to do on a given day is feed the fire, feed the fire. Tiring indeed!

When I think things can not be said better, I visit you and find out you can say them better.

Ah, I do wonder how two people who have never met can think SO much alike!! As usual, MZ, you've made my day. Thank you!

Great title! And the poem takes off from there. I'm sure we can all relate, yet no-one else could have written it like this.

This kind of tired...yes, I know of this. Your brevity is a gift.

WQhen we feed the fire we too should burn with ambition as well. Inspiring poem.

Survival is the most basic of needs. Without it we can't move on.

So very true. Too often we're too tired to aim for higher goals. Precise, wise write.

Never underestimate the utility and value of a good sharpened stick.

The last line is a wonderful statement...i think perhaps in doing all those things you are self actualizing...unless we are equipped with golden wings and seated on a cloud just how can human life be nirvana...and how dull would be up there...
