Naming Night

Ramshackle raw,
seed and salt,
this need I caught
on naming night

for the stretch of syllables,
yes, my syllables
slip/sweet
from your tongue.

All that I am
and all I can be
you gave to me
on naming night.

A warm, slow ferment,
temper and torment
I can't cure
and wouldn't wish
undone.

All the best enchanters and enchantresses know the power that comes with the naming of something--surely that's why the Three Witches chant each item out as they throw it in the brew--you dance the mystery of self out for us here, and take your own fire from it, your own way.

It is certainly what makes you who you are. Love the double nature of naming night here-- the inherent word play. Thanks, MZ.
