Herding Stars

He follows me into the night to rest his head in my lap while I meditate. He nudges against my silence when it has left him out too long.

I rest my hand on his head and stroke his ears in time with my breathing.  A mantra made of touch. When my eyes close, he sleeps.

herding stars
into constellations
a good dog dreams

My first haibun for the first Haibun Monday at dVerse

I lost my four-legged friend, Sam, over two years ago, I still miss him every day. This one does indeed speak to me.

I am a cat person. But I love dogs as well. This so speaks to me of the love of our animals for us and how they are so faithful and do not judge us. This is so very precious, in the nice sense of the word.

I loved this with every fiber of my being. So gorgeous, MZ. I especially loved the herding of constellations of stars - how very cool!!!!

This is highbrow... should be included in an anthology about pets/dogs. It's beautiful and so true and so moving.

I'll not say Wow again but instead will say how much this touched me. May all the dogs herd stars in a loving home like yours.

This made me smile. It reminded me of sitting with my own dog next to me on the couch. I love to pat his head and rub his soft, floppy ears. Blessings to your and your pup. Peace, Linda

So very sweet. I can relate to this although my meditation partner was my cat. I would receive those nudges too. MZ, I hope my comment "takes" today...I was unsuccessful last night.

They really can be demanding of our love which is certainly a beautiful thing. I really enjoyed this haibun.
