Author

The author lies back in a hammock
of her finished, folded pages,
takes a lemonade from the waitress,
and slips her a dollar or two.

The waitress smiles a little brighter.
She feeds tips to her fire.
Tonight, she's just a writer,
but she'll be an author soon.

Very clever opening line, lies / back, ham mock, double meanings in finished and folded, also wait/ress.

Tonight she's just a righter, but she'll be another soon.

Excellent layering throughout.

I want to lie back on my finish pages...as an author! Love this short but rich write! Happy Friday!

I love it, especially lying back on her finished pages and "but she'll be an author soon." Cool.

Authors luxuriate, while writers serve them, work and dream that they can rest when the first "finished folded pages" appear. Ha!

Excellent insight into a hopeful person....she waits to be an author, serves people...dreams. I like the hammock - folded pages. Excellent write, much compressed into few words. Spencer is Kanzensakura

Really interesting to contemplate the difference between being a 'writer' and being an 'author.' It's a fine line.

Loved the opening lines especially... we all think about that proverbial unpublished book we would like to become a top seller...

We OLN-ers must all hang on to that ambition!
