Steeple Chase

I've steeple chased
from Buddha to Jesus.
Enso to Cross.
I'm still lost.
Holy Ghost on toast!
Can't even buy hallelujah.

Book of Mormon
Book of Job.
Cryptic message
in my horoscope.
Nursed every mirror's smoke
trying to get to you.

In the beginning was The Word.
The only word I've heard is No.
In the end, it's all absurd.
I'm never going to know

enough to suffocate
doubt and call it faith

unless you call me.

A rough draft inspired by an Anna Karenina word list.

Wow, that last line makes for a killer closing. I'm nuts over the second stanza. Oh, and that line break after "suffocate" is very telling.

Wow! The allusions are spot on! The poem sings.

All the ditches and hurdles, all those words long winded and short and doubt is so very much alive! "Dubito ergo sum," not a bad place to be. But, hey, the idea that suffocation would be needed is enough to make me hope the Being/Force/Spirit/Father/Mother/whatevere call won't come. But I suspect it will. All we have to do is stand and wait, but life just gets too busy for that sometimes.

Oh that ending surprises and turns it all on its head. I LOVE "holy ghost on toast"!!!!! and "the only word I've heard is No." Me too, kiddo.

I know you're being snotty, Shay. But that sounds like a church I'd like to attend. I'm more of a Joyce Meyer kind of gal, though. :)

In Scripture, if someone is blinded (e.g., Saul), they are going through a major spiritual overhaul. So, blinding light could be a very good thing, depending on how you look at it. And, dude: Welcome packets usually come with free coffee cups and homemade cookies, so who could complain about that?
