Baby Me

Baby me bright
as the sunniest night
oh, radiant redhead of mine;
you know my kind

doesn't sleep much anyway.

"you know my kind" is a brilliant line because it means at least three things.

You know my kind (the type of person I am)

You know how kind I am.

And the meaning of the literal words you wrote: You know my kind doesn't sleep ...

In other words, you know me better than anyone else in the world. And not only do you love me in spite of it, but you also love me because of it.

And in the title, I think you're showing your softest, most vulnerable side. I love that you're talking to a redhead ... the most rare of hair colors.

Here's an alternate reading: You're talking to your baby, asking him/her to baby YOU for a change. Meaning, "adore me and make me the center of your world too." Being a mother is the toughest job on earth. And we'd like to see the immense love returned from time to time. Children never love their parents the way parents love their children. It's just impossible.

And my goodness, does this reading work perfectly with "you know my kind doesn't sleep much anyway"!

Goodness. The sing-songyness of this completely made me skip over the beautiful words "the sunniest night." Gorgeous and so deeply meaningul.

Bravo. Kudos. Well done. I love this tiny poem.

Instead of "meaningul," let's go with "meaningful." Although, I do like "meaning gull" or "mean in gull" or "meaning all." I could go on, but I won't. ;)
