St. 60s Elvis

On St. 60s Comeback Elvis Day,
we gather like hound dogs to slice and lay
bananas across the peanut
butter covered sacrifice.

The lights on the strip dim down to blue
moon of Kentucky shining through
till the sun rises like a roulette wheel
and rhinestones run like ice

melting twice.
We all melt twice.

Lovely, lovely! So full of musical intonations and an affectionate touch of the bizarre.

I admit, I never understood what was so great about Vegas Elvis.

I'll watch … in awe of the crazed females going wild. It always makes me laugh - I do love Elvis, but I think I'd be embarrassed to go to Graceland…

Your poem is PERFECT for this prompt.

If you mean the 60s special when he wore black leather and sang "One Night (with you)" you are SO right. It deserves its own shrine, holiday, and postage stamp.
Great work, MZ.

Long live The King!! His sightings are all around. Funny I never saw him. Mrs. Jim saw him in person at a Louisiana Hayride show. I saw his first Big Time gig live on the Ed Sullivan show. Finally, my ex-MIL had a crush on him.
Yes, Mom Z, I will help you celebrate.
