The Year

I found the cure to my disease
was to starve myself
till I was half past skinny.
I sliced myself in pages
and bound them in a book
for all to read.

I learned the planning of a funeral
rips a ready grave,
but only for the living.
And, a flower that you've tended
with your sweat and time
just goes to governor's weed.

2014 just *has* to be better. Doesn't it?

You brought tears to my eyes.

I would say, "Good poem" but I feel the infinite grief in the writing.

What Shay says. I feel actual physical relief that 2013 is over - and I suspect it was a hard year for a lot of us. As always, your writing is superb, kiddo.

You've found and learned a lot. Haunting poem. I liked it, a lot.

that first stanza carries such weight, for its lightness ~

This was a painful and powerful piece, Mama Zen. Haunting.

Wow, MZ! I don't want anyone to have those lessons, let alone a year. The year of Mandela's burial and so many others, too many; the year of some legal governor's weed ... if I catch your drift. Cures may not be many, but we can always buffer the pain. And let more people marry. And what can 2014 bring to top all of that?

I've been having a hell of a time keeping the Iris garden going. The wild lilies keep trying to take over. At least I don't have governer's weed too.

I wish I could leave comment that would at least give half the honour it deserves
