Barefoot Girl

Go out and spin
in your pastel dress.
Don't stay home waiting for some princely man
to bring glass slippers -
they'll just bind up your feet.
Lord, soon enough, a ring will tie your hands.

Dance barefoot, girl,
while you can.
Do all your dancing barefoot, my sweet, little girl,
as long as you can.

55 words for Marian's prompt at Real Toads and THE G-Man!

Talk about nostalgic! Geez. But very good advice, "long as you can." One of my main regrets....never having danced enough, not marrying a man who would. My daddy taught me to dance. And he was very good. I used to be too....

Makes me sad.

Amen--dance barefoot, listen to the music on eleven, believe in dragons and tree-faeries, sit on the floor(I really miss being able to sit on the floor) and enjoy every minute of it that you can. That ring will weigh more than you'll ever imagine.

Indeed, dance in girl! Great tone and attitude, Mama Zen!

Very sweet--more than sweet - too tired to think of the right words. It seems western oriented but one thinks especially of young women in other countries who really do lose everything once they are old enough to marry. (Little enough that they have before.) K.

Yes, how fast youthful goodness can just disappear. Enjoy it when it's still there! Great 55 MZ!

i've walked barefoot most of my life. i spin but don't wear a dress. i hope that's not a requirement.

yes, barefoot through all terrains, grass, gravil, sand, water, snow, ice. hot coals i've not done yet but i figure life will take care of that experience

beautiful, MamaZen

Why else write poetry, but to remain somewhere a contessa dancing on grass?

Alice Audrey said...

Oh sure, you say that now. But when she turns 30 and still dances away, what then?
