Spaces

The length of a day
caught and cradled in your hands
and put away.

Laugh lines playing
loose and wicked at your eyes
and mouth when you smile.

Are they inches or miles,
these interstitial spaces?
Inches or wild, gray miles?

For Kerry's prompt at Real Toads

I love the laugh lines, and the question "inches or wild gray miles?" Loved this, MZ.

I, too, like that image of "wild gray miles".

The spaces between are just as important as the shapes themselves, in both poetry and photography. This is a remarkable response to the challenge to write in black and white.

Love this love poem to the interstitial spaces on a loved ones face. Happy Thanksgiving!

Things are simpler in black and white, but the same feelings/questions sometimes come out stronger. I love the closing lines here.

I love the idea encapsulated within the first portion and that thereafter each are miniatures complete with huge meanings.

... 'wild gray miles' ~~ oh my, another way to think kindly about the aging journey. Love this.

Only you could slip the word "interstitial" so easily into a poem.
Like Helen, I love "wild gray miles" because I have enjoyed traveling so many of them.
Thanks for this!
