Broke Down

My soul broke
down in the middle of Everywhere,
so I called my sister.

"Sister," I say.
"How do I stop
the bleeding?"

And Sister, she get common
in her sense and say,
"Quit opening the skin."

Damned if Sister ain't right again.

Don't quit, MZ, don't quit. Just bleed. It takes some of us decades to learn that this is how to be alive. Beautiful!

Harder done than said. But still, having a sense-in-common sister is pretty fine!

What you said within the poetry is so very vivid and deep and love the "obvious" answer that most of us have no idea how to do except perhaps short term as in "fake it till you make it". Great write!

Common sense is what others do best. I'm sure the favor will be reciprocated...

What fun, tight and rhymic and wise.

"she get common

This bit of deconstruction hits the spot.

That's definitely the Zen in you. Poetic aptness.

A tad too close to the bone for me at the moment, but I appreciated the laugh. Needed that. Thanks!

I love how this reads--simple, straight-forward, emotive dialect "she get common in her sense" and the final result reads clever and profound. Nicely done!

ahh... but if we close our skin, our hearts will be trapped...and we'd miss the beauty and kindness too. Beautiful write, really beautiful and strong.
