Touring Holland

via Photobucket

"Don't all these tulips
make you want to stick your finger in a dyke?"
Baby giggles hot and wiggles hotter,
but I just let the comment pass.

She always turns to sassafras and ass
to get past
my evidence of God.

For Hannah's prompt at Real Toads

Gorgeous, MZ. You took me from the humour of the moment to the moment itself.

Speaking as a mother, ha ha ha ha, this is so familiar! And it's also true that Riley tended to hide behind humor rather than (what she sees as) "giving in" to pondering Creation and the Creator. But hey, she's 24 now, so she's at least realizing there is a middle age creeping up, hee hee.

This was too true, Mama! Amy

Sounds like fun, M.Z ~~ You might have been on bicycles riding through them, on tip toe?

Okay, those first two lines broke me up laughing. I've always wondered why it was a Dutch *boy* who stuck his finger in the dyke and saved Holland.

Ha Ha .. big laugh!
And even she is evidence of God.

Thank you for this poem: I can picture mothers and babies drifting into the fields.

I love how you brought a little folklore history from the place to your poem, your humor and then the punch of a big ah-ha moment...so much in a rather short but perfect piece, Mama Z!!

Had me giggling, then going "Hmmm." The best kind of writing!

Of course, those first two lines appeared on my sidebar, and I had to chuckle.

Then I linked onto your post and got to "sassafras and ass." Quite funny.

I can't stand it anymore. Read the poem, people. "Baby" obviously means a girlfriend, not a child.
