Camera Eyes

Fearing that I love you,
I craft camera eyes
to zoom in nearer,
focus clearer;
macro
and magnify.

But, I still
cannot see your insides.

So, fearing that I love you,
I stitch scalpels on my hands
to open you,
explore you;
dissect
and understand.

I'll put you back together
if I can.

beautiful and unnerving... perhaps it is the scalpel image. I hope that you will consider sharing an offering for this year's 4th annual gratitude word quilt. You can find information about the project and how to participate at the top of my blog.

Yes, there's always a condition, even to this aspect of love. Strange and engaging. I loved the wind up lines.

I took a sewing machine apart once, just to explore it~big mistake. But i've always been more butcher than surgeon.
Lovely poem, mz
Can your eyes do black n white?
That'd be way cool!

Yikes.... I hope you never love me... haha (j/k)
Scary thought, being cut open to see if you love someone or not and 'hope' you can stick them back together again...if you can.
This is a 'wow' of a write :)

oo dang....i got a shiver out of the scalpel fingers running across me...smiles...but i like what is behind that and that is to really understand and be understood by someone...so important to love...

this is what we always want from love, isn't it... to see and be seen... very intriguing!

Ooer! That experiment may prove a hard one to reverse. I like the idea, though.

I like that the FEAR of love seems to cause destruction.

You do write/say it well, MZ!! I love it!

This is disturbing, in a cool way, and written quite cleverly. All the hard "c"s in the first half, plus eyes/insides and nearer/clearer, then the second half has lots of short "a"s, and hands/understand/can.

Besides...any poem with "I craft camera eyes" as one of its lines, is cool by definition.

This is profound...and also sad. What if he/she can't be put back together?

Great work. I especially like the dark metaphor. In fact, in general I like the dark depth of your writing.

Wow, a little Tim Burton in there? I love it, very imaginative.

Love and fear, and the dissection of the other, or is it ourselves we are trying to really see? I like the dispassionate and slightly mad voice in this one much.

This is excellent, MZ! I love it. So creepy. :)

These are my favorites:

"I craft camera eyes
to zoom in nearer"

"But, I still
cannot see your insides."

"I stitch scalpels on my hands
to open you,
explore you;
dissect
and understand"

"I'll put you back together
if I can."

Um, yeah. So the whole thing. ;) Great work, girl.

Two incredibly strong metaphors.. and still it is so hard to figure out exactly what makes someone tick.

We have to know, don't we? Or is it possible that when love is true, it doesn't matter? Well written and much enjoyed.

Really lovely flow to this, mama. I hope you are recuperating well.

That is fun and fine writing. Best to be nice and kind to you—those scalpels, you know!

Ooh, delicious, the scalpels thrusting in, slicing open the object of your love...and we always mark what we love in some way. Very nice.
