Um, er..ShitYeah, i've had many days just like this. Makes me wanna imbibe to excess, so maybe i will. But as always, it's beautifully written and i like the title. I also like the image of the first few lines.Have a good weekend, mzRick
I'm with Rick! Beautiful as always, MZ! Enjoy your weekend!
I hear you. All I want to do is cool my brain under the ceiling fan--thinking is beyond me. Excellent short poem here, (especially the nailmarks on the coffinlid) despite the temperature.
Fingernail scratches on the cedar lid of eternity?
Wondering what the tally marks are counting! An interesting write.
scratches on the coffin lid....dang...now that is something...smiles...trying to escape eh? smiles.
There is somthing about your terse tight poetry that grabs me and shakes me into images and imaginings. Wonderful powerful with so many possibilities. I end up (often, so often) wishing that I had written what you write. Thank you for sharing this gift.
I came back to make a better comment. It doesn't get much bleaker than this; when the prison of one's own devise (since I don't sense a physical one here) is equivalent to coffin and cell. The lines about the ink intrigue me...almost as if the speaker is melting away, and the words that might be written are just dripping from her fingertips and lost.
"no love poem todayjust scratches on the coffin lidand another tally markon the wall"And there ya go. This is why you are awesome. We start out with sweet ink-dripping fingers and in a line or two, we've rubbed out all chances for love and are buried alive. Or perhaps vampires.
love everything about this ~ every line!♥
I love this MZ ~
I love the opening and how you ended it with a tally mark~Well Done...I loved it!
Wow, that cuts deep.
I thought you were counting the dog days of summer, but maybe it's lonlier than that. Haunting.
ha..those scratches on the coffin lid feel real and honest for sure..unlike some love poems..just saying..smiles..i like
A good one!
I'm diggin' this one.
