Animal Girls

We are laugh eyed dogs
sniffing under logs.
Feeding on the frogs
that failed to prince.
We are alley cats
with a taste for rats
we've caught and crushed flat
in our pawfists.

We are birds of prey
circling through the day.
Seem to fly away . . .
and then we strike.
We're nothing like you.
We're untamed and true.
And, we're gonna do
just as we like.

A Cyhydedd Hir for Kerry's Challenge at Real Toads.

There is so much I like about this. You've been playful with your words here, from the "laugh eyed dogs" to cats with "pawfists." The second stanza is full of devil may care attitude; fly on, gals!

I, too, love your playful words and what a delightful way to wind down my day! You are good!

I love the frogs who failed to prince, and the cats' "pawfists"! Great use of words, a great response to the challenge.

very neat. really fun lines throughout, especially like the failed to prince remark, have to love it when a noun is used as a verb, I do it a lot myself and love when I find others doing it. Great job. Thanks

I am also a fan of:
"Feeding on the frogs
that failed to prince."
I'm afraid that your poem proved the opposite to me: human girls do these wild things, at least metaphorically, unless they are very well tamed.

I just love the freedom the 'girls' in this poem feel. I do love the feeding on frogs line....made me smile.

I thought this was just terrific. I disagree with Brian I think - the second stanza more direct perhaps but the frogs that failed to prince is a priceless line -inspired, wonderful. The whole poem works terrifically well. Agh! Now I think I should have forgone this challenge!

Just great. k.

How wild and free! I love the cheeky rebellious tone of this, and the form is handled with masterful ease.

Loved the frogs that failed to prince.

I LOVE the "frogs that failed to prince". OMG. Only too well, sadly. I love the tone of this. You wild-child, you!

I rather like the rats being crushed in the pawfists myself. This is just really well done on so many levels--and made me smile on a not very smiley day, so thanks. And now I feel like I *really* need to try this form--you make it sound delicious as vengeance served cold after a refreshing romp in the roadkill.
