Em

She writes
to the faint light
of a window
across the way

poems that linger
on her fingers
and smudge her lips;

kisses,
soft as untried wings,
forever longed for
in her singular, untried darkness.

Written with my neice, Hayden, for Fireblossom Friday at Real Toads

The middle stanza is gorgeous. Apparently your poems DON'T linger on your fingers, and we're all grateful for that.

There is a certain magic that hangs over our image of poets and authors, which you and Hayden have captured so well in these lines.

Poems like kisses lingering on ink smudged lips is so tactile and visual at the same time.

I love it that you gals chose to write about Emily and Susan. Having looked out her window myself, I can so see this. Thanks so much for this, both of you. Is there another poetess in the family?

Very atmospheric, and the last lines make for a strong finish to a moody, evocative piece about one of my favorite poets.

I like the poems that linger on fingers and smudge her lips ~ fine writing with your niece MZ ~

Love the expression of writing to the faint light, MZ. So often, as poets, we have undoubtedly done that. Paying no attention to the sun going down. One lucky niece you have to be able to collaborate with you.
