Waitin' for a sign
on the side of the road.
Ain't broke down,
just don't know which way to go.
Been here all day.
I'll be here all night.
On the side of the road.
Waitin' for a sign.
Waitin' for a word.
An answer to a prayer.
Gathered in his name,
he says he'll be there.
Your mama may listen,
and the devil may care.
The Lord's done left for Barstow
and ain't answerin' prayers.
For Kerry's Road prompt at Real Toads.
Baby Puppy and I were interviewed over at Poet's United. Check it out!

What a great poem/song, and what a marvelous interview. I love what you said poetry is...Perfect!
I'd put this one to music!
Was a great interview, and Baby Puppy wote a fantastic poem.
ha it is def lyrical...nice bluesy tune in the back...yeah...good stuff MZ...and nice interview today...i hear those music roots...smiles.
Yep, this one should go to music! I loved the interview! I can see Baby Puppy following in Mama's shoes!
And now I'm thinking of Sheryl Crow lyrics.
I like this:
"The Lord's done left for Barstow
and ain't answerin' prayers."

Yeah MZ, love the lyrical quality here, really flows out load. Thanks
Pick it, girl. Woody would be proud.
This is a great song in the making.
And yes, if you're in Barstow, then clearly, the Lord won't be answering your prayers.
Just wonderful. - Mosk
Marvelous singing-- has that lowdown blues feeling-- can nearly hear the riffs-- xxxj
Oh this is Grapes of Rath to me...it is a blues song...it is life...Love it!
Definitely has that road feel to it--and you nail that feeling we get when we're in-between where we were and where we're going, trying to figure out which turn on the map is the right one. Well-imagined, MZ.
This needs a tune to go with it, and someone to sing the mournful words. Such haunting imagery in the waiting, both in the literal and metaphoric sense.
I like the rhythm here... a lyrical lilt.
Where's Willie when you need him? Yes, this deserves a musical score!
Way cool Road Trip song! The photo is marvelous, too.
love a good blues set.
this catches the tone of that experience, including the lay-down of the specific.
Barstow, in this case.
though... i've been to Barstow... if god was ever there, he sure left in a hurry. and didn't leave a forwarding address.
also.. randomly, when i first looked at the photo, i thought the woman was holding a cellphone. :) ... just calling Triple A to come a give her a tow...
anachronistic delight!
I certainly agree this would be perfect set to music.
Oh yeah, can definitely hear this one with a gee-tar! Fine words for finger pickin'!
You've got me thinking the blues, too. This is great.

This packs a powerful punch!
Amazing road image and the perfect words to suit it. I was gathered right into your thoughts, thank you, Mama Zen!
This just needs a chorus and a bridge and its the anthem of the 99%. I liked it even if I don't like occupy
Love your voice here...and enjoyed your interview at PU ~ Happy day to you ~
very nice..made me think of the jazz piece roadsong...
Great bluesy homage to Route 66. I live six blocks from the Mother Road and can certainly appreciate the poetic appeal that particular highway holds.
Ah yes, sometimes one can wait forever for an answer to prayer. Been there. One has to choose one's own road, it seems, as no one else is going to tell you the route.
