When I went blind,
I discoveredthat both sunflowers and spider webs
make you laugh
when brushed against the backs of your knees.
When I went deaf,
I recovered
the ebb and swell
of the womb
in the beating of your heart.
When I went mute,
other languages
sprouted
from the palms
of my hands.
You gathered the blooms
like pieces of poetry.
I just smiled
and remembered your knees.

Beautiful! Just love that third stanza :)
Beautiful as always and no one says it better! Thank you!
Sylvia
I could read this over and over ~ forever.
smiles...i like the playfulness in this MZ....i like the switch up in the 3rd stanza from what you found in them as it really highlights the last stanza well....
Oh, this is just superb.. there is something about your voice which invites the reader to go on a journey with you. We instinctively trust you to reveal the truth to us, and share the simple wisdom afforded one who sees things as they are, and as they should be. I never grow tired of reading your work.
This is so beautiful..you never fail at amazing me by your writing
Wonderful and I love all the wisdom you shared! I also loved your gatherings ;D
I loved this fresh eyed view~
Great inspiration from the pic. Love the use of the senses here. Nice job. Thanks
Nice use of the senses...and I like the ending too ~
Simply stunning...one can always find something to be thankful for!
You are on a roll lately, girl. I especially like the languages sprouting from the hands. And the ending!
I too was struck by the languages sprouting from the hands........absolutely wonderful writing!
Lovely and sensual. Just fantastic!
This is one I would like to hear read aloud...inspirational, a great read on this Saturday afternoon.
This is such rich imaginative work, MZ. I am already bald, and my pens are all broken in half, and Shay had me curled in the fetal position with one of hers the other day, so all I can do now is gibber and quietly moan. Everything about this is fine fine writing, the language, the images, and as I said at the beginning, the imagination that grew it.
so beautiful....I could almost touch the words....I am a fan!
Yes, that third stanza is wondrous and memorable. The whole poem is that, actually.
Makes me curious to see what the prompt was at toads so I'm hopping over there now.
somehow the sunflowers and spider webs, brushed against the backs of the knees give me goose bumps..but in a good way..
This is achingly good. Such powerful images that really fit the lack of vision in the sunflouwer. I hadn't seen the photo that way until I read your poem, but it really is dulled like we cannot see properly! Love it!
ohhh very very beautiful and truthy. i love this one.
I love how you dig deep and come up with zingers! This is stunningly beautiful.
This is beautiful, fun, and a lovely reminder that our favored senses aren't the only way to perceive the world.
"that both sunflowers and spider webs make you laugh when brushed against the backs of your knees"
"I just smiled

I love the connection between the opening and closing. To me, it seems that you are the sunflower/spider (beautiful poison) tickling the backs of someone's knees, perhaps with your poetry.

I love this, Kelli. I'm having trouble with my eyes again, and such subjects for poetry are the farthest from my thoughts. You've given me a gift here. Thank you.

Dear Lord, this is so beautiful. You speak of small blessing we barely notice when we have everything we think we need. We have so little wisdom.
Kisses. <3
Really amazing, MZ...

My dear, this is just so wonderfully done. Love how you brought so much to this...!!
Very much loved the feel of this piece, but this stanza jumped out at me at exceptionally exceptional:
When I went mute,
other languages
sprouted
from the palms
of my hands.
Well done and viva la
"When I went mute,

sprouted

of my hands."
gorgeous words, MZ! the entire poem is stunning!
♥
Fabulous imagery. Sunflowers always seem to be so hand in hand with happiness and sunshine, don't they?
Loved the languages in the palms of your hands. The internet has truly opened up most of the world to billions of us now, hasn't it!
