The storm came out of the East,
as no self-respecting storm would do,
and meandered West against all convention.
Strange and stubborn and struggling
to be taken seriously,
its black cloud countenance
glowered lightning
and spit slanted rain.
Thunder wandered wicked
from wind to wind.
But the falling hail
forgot to be fearsome
and bounced joyfully on the green carpet of grass.

Yep, I've seen hail do that and not long ago! Great words as always!
This reminds me of June 2006 .. hail at least three inches deep out here! Pretty spectacular ... your poem and the hail!
I think the weather has completely lost its mind. Loved the cute image of the joyful hail resulting from the weird storm.
I just knew I was writing of spring arriving too soon. Apparently we have snow forecast for Sunday/Monday. Darn!
Nicely said MZ (Ooo..Gosh, I rhymed again) LOL
Nicely said...crazy weather :)
Just lovely. K.
How can one small poem be do dynamic and poignant, engaging and engrossing? Nice write.
Wicked storms come out of the east, often turn arounds from the west, packing every wallop possible. You've captured them all, even the bouncing joyful hail. Lovely.
I could just see this in my mind so easily. Hail does look rather silly bouncing around like that. Great imagery!
ha....this year nothing would surprise me...i am still waiting for snow to come in july....
"Thunder wandered wicked from wind to wind"........sigh. GREAT line! Loved this piece, , kiddo - such a great description of a storm, I was IN it.
Love your word usage with the alliteration and internal rhymes. So fun to read!
Hi, I've been in love with your blog for a while and I just gave you an award. Please come and see - http://meehameeha.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-brightest-secret.html
Hugs!
I love the energy of a hailstorm, so really enjoyed your words, especially the change of tone in the final lines.
I loved the imagery, but the ending was my favorite! It was really fun to read; I love a good storm~
nice piece. I used to work in the south and it's the only place I can recall seeing the slanted rain, truly was an oddity, add to that the intense awe that filled the sky, southern storms are like nothing we get up north, which i guess in some respect I should say thankfully. Such cool lines throughout this piece. No self-respecting storm would do- black cloud countenance, glowered lightning, thunder wandered wicked, hail forgot to be fearsome- really cool write MZ. Thanks
So beautiful..I have watched such a storm in the spring. I love the ending.
oh I love this - so reminiscent of humans, especially the "struggling to be taken seriously," and the joyful dance of the hailstones
I like the dark power of the storm, contrasting with the joyful bounce of the hail ~
Happy day to you~
I loved this...especially the description of hail which was not fearsome at all!
You seem to have the most clever sense of humor...I love your writing and the lightness with which you seem to walk through life...at least it seems that way in your poetry...another dandy.
A silly storm. This was a fun one. :)
Hail do sometimes happen over here but rarely so. It is a novelty and creates lots of excitements.

This is delightful, and very nearly qualifies also as a 55! (I know, I know, get a life and stop counting words!)
Beware of unconventional storms...
Good one!
