Plainly

"Speak plainly, poet,"
you say with a laugh,
and my words fly
like startled birds
so I kiss you.

Once-
quickly-
before you can speak.
Twice-
deeply-
until we sink
to the ground together,

and our lips' simple couplet
says more
than a sky full of verse.

This piece speaks to the (closet romantic) poet within me, as well as the (closet romantic) poetry reader, Mama.

Something we've thought and longed for.

Poets always kiss in couplets--unless it's a sonnet of course. Loved the alive feel to this, MZ.

This is so wonderfully done, the affection, emotion, and that image at the beginning as the words fly.. Brilliant!

I have to admit... as I read this I literally could feel the urge for my love to come home and release the feelings I felt reading this;)

You know it's great poetry when you feel something like that ;)

It's not often that I can read poetry like this - and relax enough to enjoy it - without feeling icky...

It takes some cold skill to make me feel romantic...lol
