A female leopard
lives alone
and likes it.
She casts a solitary
shadow
on the savanna.
She is a ghost
of the gorge,
a wraith
at the waterhole.
Nocturnal
and nomadic,
she hunts,
mates,
mates,
and wanders the night
without
ever establishing
a permanent den
until
until
she has a cub.

Love your description of the leopard. It kind of reminds me of me~a loner that wandered until I had my son.
Mama Spots and Baby Kitty, I presume?
As always, you paint a vivid portrait in just a few lines. Thanks so much for being part of my prompt at Toads!
I feel the pacing of the leopard in this..solitary, efficient, proud
This is terrific, MZ! I love it! The perfect word portrait of a mama leopard! Beautiful!
Sylvia
beautiful, I can relate to this
I love your use of white space, and it certainly rings true. Once you're a mother, you're a mutha when it comes to many things.
Cubs knock spots off other attractions! LOL ♥
The nesting instinct, isn't it wonderful. I'd build a nest and stay home for this cute little cub, too.
I love it, MZ.

A leopard with spots is always seen as a loner and dangerous. I wonder if without spots something like a lioness would make it any different!

Until there comes someone who relies on you, how true!
That's my kind'a gal! (When I'm dreaming romantic dreams, that is...)
Single mom. This is kind of sad. Strong, beautiful, but sad.
I just LOVE the ending!! The cub makes ALL the difference.
Then she becomes a Mum amongst the world's Mums.
Lovely.
aw.
Succinct foray into the natural history of the soul.
Excellent piece MZ, wonderfully set up, love the ending. Great job. Thanks
That last line changes us all ~
Nice one MZ ~
i like the independent voice here..the finding freedom and peace in just roaming the space and being content with oneself..and then the circumstances that change everything...and it's good..found myself a bit in this
I so love this. It is perfect.
Love the ending... I think having cubs changes all of us.
Absolutely.
This is awesome:
"She is a ghost
of the gorge,
a wraith
at the waterhole."
And the ending is a perfect surprise, and so true.
