High Waters

"Expecting a flood?"
The boy tugs his too short jeans.
He's dry, but drowning

in loud, cruel laughter,
embarrassment, and the shame
of empty pockets.

What power here! I had no idea where this was leading and was surprised by the ending. Well done, Mama Zen!

Floods here and here and here

How those things can hurt us then, the jeers of our peers--At least we can just tell them to bugger off and mean it when we're older.

I like the fire in your words... even in haiku form, you don't lose your voice.

Love the meaningful and creative take on the prompt ~ I also post in another blog, using my real name - Grace
