Instructions

If I go to crazy and don't make it back,
bring her up to love Jesus.
Remember that she likes her milk warm and her peas frozen.
Let her make you laugh.

If she asks, tell her
that a blue sky bird may break a wing,
but that broken bird will still sing.
Tell her to listen
in the quiet of the morning.

Foreboding. Flips me over.
But you'll be fine...she'll see to that.

I LOVE that a blue bird with a broken wing will still sing. Poignant.

This brings back memories of when they were oh so young... My fear of dying was huge back then, mainly because I worried about their lives without me. Such an ego!

Great piece, it brought a lump to my throat.

This made my heart ache but also skip a beat. As a mom I know this anxiety all too well. It lessens as they get older but doesn't go away. You express it perfectly.

Very nice. I like the simplicity in here, that is part of something larger. The sky bird is something I hadn't thought of before yet makes so much sense, and those two lines are easily my favorite here. Just wonderfully stated. Really enjoyed the write:)

Oh I like this. Tragic but with a dash of hope. Best served with warm milk and frozen peas.

The broken birds sing to heal themselves, and us, I think. Or maybe just to go out singing instead of croaking like everybody else. Wise writing.

Beautiful, Mama Zen. You know how to leave a legacy. Just don't leave us yet.

Yes, a foreboding song. It's not like the crazy person is outside tapping on the window, right? She's inside, under the floorboards, waiting ... We only get reprieves, days of sanity measured out by sane acts our crazy brains think are boring. Like FB said, keep singing ... Dante was wrapped in the meters of Virgil when he walked through Hell; he got through, iamb by iamb ... Brendan

listen is a worthy activity, especially in the early morning. i knew a psychic who raved about the power of being up before the rest of the world woke up.
blue sky bird is beautiful.

oh, how I could sing this tune to my husband. could really relate - love, love, love, "bring her up to love Jesus" and the part about the blue bird is precious and so unique- sounds like a conversation you two really had.

This hits me with memories of my mother's Alzheimer's. She traveled to a place in her mind where none of us could follow...beautiful instructions.
